Danda Yatra

Ganjam's most sacred folk tradition — a 13 to 21-day period of intense penance and devotion to Maa Kali (Danda Kali) and Lord Shiva, observed in the month of Chaitra (March–April) and culminating on Maha Bishuva Sankranti (Odia New Year, ~April 14). Participants called Danduas fast from sunrise to midnight, perform barefoot parikramas, and undertake three forms of penance: Dhuli Danda (sand and heat), Pani Danda (water), and Agni Danda (fire-walking at midnight). The closing day — Meru — is celebrated with Gram Parikrama and community offerings.

08

Sitalasasthi

The celestial wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati — celebrated with deep devotion across Ganjam district each year in the month of Jyeshtha (May–June). As Maa Kali is a supreme form of Shakti — the same divine feminine energy as Parvati — this festival carries special reverence at this temple. Devotees participate in the ceremonial wedding procession, offer flowers and prayers, and celebrate the union of Shiva and Shakti that underlies all creation.
